Today I had the opportunity to re-read the Commencement address delivered by Steve Jobs in 2005 to graduating Stanford students. The timing could not have been more perfect since I was just talking about "doing what you love" with a business school classmate of mine over brunch. Jobs' message is loud and clear:
*On working: "You've got to find what you love...Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle."
*On living: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right...Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking."
